CHILDREN RIGHTS AND THEIR WELFARE ACTIVITIES

One of the objectives of the organization is in the area of children’s right, that is promote and seek the welfare and rights of all children. YWTO seeks to ensure that children’s welfare is catered for and that the best interest of the child shall be paramount in any matter concerning a child. Then also, to ensure that, no child is discriminated against on the grounds of gender, race, age, religion, disabilty, health status, custom, ethnic origin rural or urban background, birth or other status, social -economic status or because the child is a refugee. YWTO aims also to ensure that children are protected from torture and degrading treatment so that children are proteced from torture and degrading treatment so that, no child will be subjected to misfortune and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment which is injurious to the physical and mental well-being of a child. YWTO also, seeks to ensure that the rights of children are not trampled upon in the society where they find themselves.

RIGHT TO EDUCATION:

YWTO will ensure that, children’s right to education is not trampled upon and that, every child will have access to education, immunization adequate diet, clothing, shelter, and other thing required for his development

RIGHT OF OPINION:

YWTO will ensure that, no person shall deprive a child capable of forming views the right to express an opinion, to be listened to and to participate in decisions, which effects his well being.

RIGHT TO SOCIAL ACTIVITIES

YWTO will ensure that, no person shall deprive a child the right to participate in sports, or in positive cultural and artiste activities or other leisure activities

CHILD LABOUR

YWTO will be actively involved in the campaign against child labour. It will therefore ensure that the right of the child protected against any economic exploitation and from performing any work that is likely to be hazardous or to interfere with the child’s education, or to be harmful to the health, physical, social or moral development. In Ghana, rural working children are mainly engaged in agriculture activities and collecting water, fire wood, etc. The poor girls work as domestic servants for richer families. Some girls also perform unpaid for families who adopt them.
