YOUTH IN AGRICULTURE AND FORESTRY DEVELOPMENT
AGRICULTURE:
As known to be the engine of economic growth especially in Ghana to be strengthened. This can only be achieved by the youth in Ghana,
That is when they are enticed and empowered to do so.
For this reason, ywto has as its objectives to promote agriculture and also to educate them on the benefits they will gain in going to agriculture and the nation as well.
The organization will collaborate with international farming exchange program which is known as Willing Workers On Organic farms [wwoof] it gives people the opportunity to gaining first hand experience in organic farming and gardening, in return for specially a weekend or longer working on farm. Since wwoof began in England in 1971,similar schemes have been developed in other countries around the world.
Ywto will introduce those schemes to farmers so that they will gain experience from wwoof volunteeers.
FORESTRY:
The organization works in the conservation and the implementation of permaculture/agroforestry in deforested areas under agriculture. Ywto wish to conserve this area with its exceptionally rich biodiversity and high levels of endemism.
Ywto has been implementing small- scale activities in several parts of the area, ie.tree nurseries, bamboo’s fruit & nut trees, nitrogen fixing trees and agroforestry techniques will be applied in order to teach local farmers sustainable productive methods.
The organization has plans to introduce “friends of trees” which aims at encouraging the youth to have interest in tree planting as a means of conserving the environment.
